Get Surreal

Up for Grabs Assignment 2 - Lion, Witch and Wardrobe

For my final up for grabs assignment I choose the topic “get surreal”. At the time I just picked the topic because it seemed the most open ended. The idea of surreal could be very open. So, as I begin brainstorming ideas and seeing what I could accomplish, and what I wanted to accomplish. As well, as I reflect this semester, mostly just in the class, of what really worked for me. Where did I excel the most, but also what did I enjoy the most?

I noticed that I absolute loved the Little Red Robin hood story, and the Gone in the Wind. Both those were outside, with natural lighting. Lately my daughter has been reading a lot of fantasy novels, and I must thank myself for that one. I’ve always enjoyed the fantasy genre. So, when I noticed she was reading The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, my wheels began to turn even more.

I started picturing a photoshoot I could do relating to that, what is more surreal than a little girl traveling through something into a magical world ruled by a lion and being terrorized by a witch.

So the idea of leaving this reality and escaping into another one seemed very surreal to me.

I liked the idea of a child going through the portal, as one curious child would do.

I looked over the book and picked out some moments right from the start that I knew would be do-able.

I started with the girl going into the "wardrobe" I did the wall, only because it seemed more surreal, a giant hole in your wall that leads you to a magical place.

I next wanted to bring her into that world. She first is met by a lamp post in the middle of the woods.

In the real Narnia it is Winter time when the little girl enters that world, however, our snow here has all but melted away. So what little snow we could find we used.

I had to bring to life some of the characters from the story. When the curious child enters this new world, she meets a faun. In the book it was a male, however, a female suited this seem better.

I wanted the faun creature to have a little glow to her, a mystical feature.

As the faun is the guide in the story

The child is very fascinated by this peculiar creature. But this is where the bond begins. Right under the lamp post in Narina.

Where the start of the series begins.
